"I often see patients who have gone to every specialist under the sun and still haven't been able to pinpoint what is wrong in their bodies. Hearing a person's story and helping them find the root cause of their issues, and then empowering them in their own healing journey is the best part of this medicine for me!"

How does acupuncture fit into primary care?

One Medical's experienced licensed acupuncturists collaborate with our physicians to provide holistic care to address your health concerns while prioritizing prevention and maintenance so you stay in top shape.

As a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, acupuncture is a complex, holistic medical system that’s considered a valuable complementary and alternative modality in modern Western medicine. Rooted in ancient Eastern philosophies around energy and balance, acupuncture relies on the use of fine needles to stimulate specific points on the body to promote healing, as well as nutritional therapy and herbal medicine and supplements when necessary.

Over one million people in the US use acupuncture to address a variety of health issues, including pain, stress, digestive problems, fatigue, and fertility concerns.

At One Medical, our acupuncturists collaborate with our primary care providers to fully understand the scope of each unique problem and to create the most comprehensive, beneficial treatment plan possible. If supplements or herbs are recommended to further your treatment goals, our acupuncturists will communicate directly with your primary care provider about supplement and drug interactions to optimize your health and wellbeing.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

While some insurance carriers may provide a limited amount of coverage for integrative services, One Medical offers acupuncture treatment to our patients for an out-of-pocket cost. Providing services in this way allows us to continue delivering affordable care to all of our members in a way that’s reasonable and sustainable. If your insurance carrier does cover acupuncture services, we’re happy to provide an itemized receipt for you to submit for reimbursement.

What kinds of conditions can acupuncture be used for?

The overarching goal of acupuncture is to restore and maintain balance in the body. Our acupuncturists routinely diagnose and treat a wide range of health issues including joint and nerve inflammation, muscle pain, digestive issues like IBS, anxiety, insomnia, weight loss and a variety of women’s health concerns including infertility, painful periods, and polycystic ovary syndrome.
